Prairie Rose Cremation & Funeral Services offers a basic cremation service for those who do not require any additional services. Basic cremation is ideal for those families who wish to hold their own celebration of life, memorial service, or scatter the cremated remains at a later date or in another location. Basic cremation services give you the option to honour your loved one privately and in your own way. During the consultation, you can share your wishes with us for your loved one, and our team will ensure that these wishes are followed.
$1752.38 plus GST and Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board Fee ($10) = $1850

Our Basic Cremation Package
Our Basic Cremation Package includes everything you need for a dignified, complete cremation service:
- Consultation with one of the funeral directors at your preferred location.
- Registering the death, cremation fee, and minimum cremation container (sufficient for 240 pounds)
- All permits required, temporary urn, 10 funeral director’s statements of death,
- Notification to CPP & OAS, CPP & Survivor’s benefits application forms,
- Obituary on our website
- Returning the cremated remains and documentation to you personally.
Additional rural transportation fees may apply outside of Airdrie, Calgary, and Red Deer. There are no additional fees for transfers outside of regular hours or for requiring extra staff.

Basic Cremation FAQs
Prairie Rose Cremation & Funeral Services offers a wide selection of beautiful urns, but you do not have to purchase an urn from us. You are free to purchase an urn from another provider or even supply your own container that is meaningful to you.
No, there is no legislation that states that the family has to identify the body. However, many funeral homes have their own practices and policies that require identification. Prairie Rose Cremation & Funeral Services does not require the body to be identified by the family prior to cremation. Should an ID not be made in person the family will be asked to sign a waiver stating this.
The simple answer is yes, you can scatter cremated remains. An option might be to scatter some cremated remains and keep some in a registered cemetery so there will be a permanent record of death. Permission must be obtained from the landowner prior to scattering of cremated remains on any property, Including Crown land and public spaces (parks, golf courses, etc.). Scattering cremated remains in the flowing water of a national park is strictly prohibited.
